Green Flag Award - Award

What is Eligible?

The Green Flag Award is open to any freely accessible park or green space, including:

Town Parks
Country Parks
Formal Gardens
Nature Reserves
Local Nature Reserves (LNR’s)
Cemetery and Crematoria
Water Parks
Open Spaces
Millennium Greens
Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI’s)
Woodlands
Allotments

Applications must be made by the organisation that manages the park or green space but community groups and individuals interested in the Award should encourage the management to apply. The award is given on an annual basis. Winners are obliged to display the winning flag and certificate in a prominent position throughout the year.

Successful parks and green spaces are eligible to fly the ‘Green Flag’ for 1 year after which they have to re-apply to retain the award. However, a park or green space must maintain and improve on previous standards to be guaranteed a subsequent award.
