Advice please! - Pond Dipping Platform - kits?

Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any companies which produce kits for timber pond dipping platforms? If not are there any plans available to glean specifications etc?

Many Thanks,

Rob

Anyone know about dog grids?

It seems the dog grids at one of our Green Flag Award winning squares in London are becoming unsafe to the public (getting a bit slippy I think) and I wondered if anyone has advice on safe ones, or could recommend what to do?

My local park (more of an open space) has benefited from a lot of hard work from local groups and the council and has justly been awarded a green flag. But the flag is my problem; it isn’t just one but three all on tall white flagstaffs more at home outside the commodore’s cabin of a yacht club. Add to this the obligatory multiple noticeboards and we have an unwelcome degree of urbanisation that has drawn some local comment. One flag on a green pole with one noticeboard would be understandable but is all this paraphernalia enough to cause the award to be withdrawn?

Hello everyone,

I think this is a brilliant idea! As a parks employee it is very useful to be able to see what people think and feel about parks in other areas. Long may it continue!

Thanks,

To all you budding photographers out there - we would love to receive photographs you have taken of those Green Flag Award-winning green spaces - maybe you have captured an atmospheric scene on an early morning stroll or snapped a shot of someone enjoying the moment. Wildlife pictures, family shots - anything which conveys how much you appreciate these wonderful green spaces - we would like to see them. Could you also put together a paragraph or two about the picture? This is not a competition but selected photographs and stories will be posted onto the Green Flag Award website in the news section. We will also add these pictures to our archive of park pictures and use them on the website and in our marketing literature and maybe in the future we can even host an exhibition of them. Please send your creative snaps to segerton at civictrust dot org dot uk

Consultation on Green Flag Awards

Finsbury Park is being revisited for it’s Green Flag Award this Wednesday at 10am. As Chair of the Friends Group I’m aware of the visit but I can’t make it, neither can the other trustees. This means that other than the fortuitous arrival of this Forum we have no way of commenting to the Green Flag judges on the successes and failures of Haringey’s management over the past year - no names, no contact details, nothing!
Does Green Flag contact any stakeholders outside the Local Authority? Are there others out there that think they should? I’ll put my specific concerns on Finsbury Park in a separate post and just hope that someone sees it.

Finsbury Park

Concerns over Haringey’s management of Finsbury Park:

Car parking:
There is far more car parking allowed than is stated in the management plan, with regular, daily parking on around 1/4 to 1/3 of the Carriage Drive rather than the much smaller area stated on p9 of Haringey’s plan. This appears to be due to poor management as vehicle barriers are in place but simply left open -possible to make life easy for Council staff to get around.

Income:
The income target in the management plan of £262,810 is unrealistic, Haringey earned £144,092 in 05/6. We don’t think they have ever achieved anything near to this target, which leaves the Park permanently underfunded.

Consultation:
Haringey are still on the first rung of the ladder, it’s often not clear whether they are informing or consulting us, they haven’t begun to consider or adopt our consultation plan (a yr 1 target) and we are told that they tell others that they believe a chat with the Chair is sufficient consultation.

Information
The new information maps are wrong, particularly around the cafe and Manor House gates.

Haringey have just given themselves a design award for the park. Presumably the visit was made before the green/blue view blocking fence was put up around the track?

Individual officers clearly care about the Park and are proud of it and their efforts. They need more resources and strategic guidance, for example bya policy to refer design issues to Haringey’s design panel and more corporate help on consultation.
