Concerns over Haringey’s management of Finsbury Park:
Car parking:
There is far more car parking allowed than is stated in the management plan, with regular, daily parking on around 1/4 to 1/3 of the Carriage Drive rather than the much smaller area stated on p9 of Haringey’s plan. This appears to be due to poor management as vehicle barriers are in place but simply left open -possible to make life easy for Council staff to get around.
Income:
The income target in the management plan of £262,810 is unrealistic, Haringey earned £144,092 in 05/6. We don’t think they have ever achieved anything near to this target, which leaves the Park permanently underfunded.
Consultation:
Haringey are still on the first rung of the ladder, it’s often not clear whether they are informing or consulting us, they haven’t begun to consider or adopt our consultation plan (a yr 1 target) and we are told that they tell others that they believe a chat with the Chair is sufficient consultation.
Information
The new information maps are wrong, particularly around the cafe and Manor House gates.
Haringey have just given themselves a design award for the park. Presumably the visit was made before the green/blue view blocking fence was put up around the track?
Individual officers clearly care about the Park and are proud of it and their efforts. They need more resources and strategic guidance, for example bya policy to refer design issues to Haringey’s design panel and more corporate help on consultation.
