A stunning view of Ulley Country Park

Staff from an Environment Agency contact centre will this month take time out from their regular jobs to help an important project at a Green Flag Award-winning park made famous by last summer's floods.

Rotherham Council is currently carrying out an 18-month rehabilitation programme at Ulley Country Park. This includes the renovation of the main dam wall which almost breached in June 2007. Then, the lake was so full of water from heavy rain that the dam was weakened – threatening to release millions of gallons onto the nearby M1 and an electricity sub-station.

Ranger John Jackson said: “It is our intention to restore an important grassland habitat within the Country Park for the benefit of local wildlife and the enjoyment of the general public.”

Environment Agency customer service specialist Lisa Briggs said: “Improving Ulley Park is a great opportunity for us to get involved and help clean up and restore the area following the impact of last summer’s floods.”
