Coombe Abbey Country Park is widely enjoyed by youngsters

Green Flag Award winning Coombe Abbey Country Park in Coventry provided logs free of charge to a local school to help create a sensory garden and raised flower beds for the enjoyment of its pupils.

The initiative was part of a day of action organised by Business in the Community (BITC) which comprised five volunteers from Coventry Airport who went along to Willenhall Community Primary School to help with the project.

A large part of Coombe Abbey Country Park is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest as recognition of its importance to wildlife, and features Warwickshire’s largest heronry and a large bird hide, and there is an extensive education and interpretation programme in place.

Forthcoming educational events include ‘Creatures of the night’ which takes place between 9 and 8.30pm on 14 June. Youngsters (and adults!) can join the rangers on a bat walk and learn more about these nocturnal mammals. A further event explores ‘Badgers Bees and Bugs’ on 21 June between 10.30am and 3pm Come and join various wildlife groups to learn about the work they do to protect and promote these mammals and insects. There are also lots of activities for families to have a go at. Its free to come along and suitable for the whole family. Booking is essential - please contact 024 7645 3720
