Green gang members on the trail of bugs

A grand total of 39 people became part of the Green Gang at Samphire Hoe for an event with a bug theme in the May sunshine.

Paul Holt, from the White Cliffs Countryside Project, who led the event explained: “We made two stops to search for mini-beasts in the grasslands.  The children found a good variety of insects including beetles young crickets and grasshoppers and even a female wolf spider carrying her babies on her back. The most impressive creature was a cream spot tiger moth.”

Having been inspired by seeing the insects the children, with a little help from their parents made peg bugs using wooden pegs as bodies, pipe cleaners for legs and coloured paper for wing cases.

The next event at Samphire Hoe is Bugs Badges at 2pm on the 30th May when there will be a mini-beast safari followed by the chance to make a bug inspired badge.
