Green Flag Award

Beat the temptation to hibernate this winter and take to the great outdoors by logging onto http://www.greenflagaward.org.uk - the website devoted to the nation’s best green spaces.

The Green Flag Award scheme’s What’s-On guide showcases events and activities at some of the 322 Green Flag Award parks and green spaces across England and Wales. These quality sites, all freely accessible to the public, offer a wealth of healthy activities and entertainment for everyone this winter, from conservation work to ice skating.

There will be a number of events taking place in our parks and green spaces throughout the festive season and there is no easier way to find your nearest award-winning park than with our dedicated website.

Get your skates on and visit Forty Hall Country Park in London where the courtyard has been turned into an ice-skating rink from Saturday until the 8th January. Indulge in star gazing at Manchester’s Heaton Park or take part in Santa’s workshop at Hough Green Park in Widnes in Cheshire. These are just a few examples of the exciting events taking place over the next month.

The Green Flag Award scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces, managed by The Civic Trust and recognising the value of green spaces to communities, particularly in urban areas, and rewarding excellent standards of green space management.

Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Applications Manager, commented:

“Don’t be blue this winter – instead wrap up and get energetic at one of our award winning parks and green spaces. These quality green spaces are particularly stunning on a sunny, frosty winter’s day so get out and use them and feel happier and healthier for it.

“Our What’s On Guide means people can find up-to-the-minute information about a wide variety of winter events at these top quality green spaces which are freely accessible to all. There is something for everyone, so visit http://www.greenflagaward.org.uk and see for yourself.”
