• Caroline aims to fly high with the Civic Trust

A new Marketing Manager has been appointed to the Civic Trust to help drive up the standards of the nation’s parks and green spaces.

Caroline Williams has taken on the vital role of marketing the Green Flag Award scheme to potential applicants, helping to ensure that more communities can benefit from quality green spaces. She will be based at the scheme’s new offices in the centre of Liverpool.

A record 322 green spaces this year achieved a Green Flag Award – an increase of 27 per cent on last year when 253 Green Flags were flying. The scheme will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next year after being launched in 1996 by a group of people passionate about green spaces.

Caroline, who began her new role on November 7, said: “I am very excited to be joining The Civic Trust at a time when the Green Flag Award Scheme is approaching its ten year anniversary and enjoying continued success.

“I will be working closely with the wider Civic Trust team in London as there are opportunities to promote the Green Flag Award to supporters of the Civic Trust and to establish the scheme as a key component in the Trust’s overall objective of improving the quality of urban life for everyone.”

Caroline is currently developing a new marketing strategy for the scheme which will incorporate the wider work of the Civic Trust and partners to reach out to groups and organisations which would be eligible for an award. On a more strategic level, the strategy will incorporate the Government’s activities and objectives as the focus falls on creating cleaner, safer, greener communities for all.

The trust’s Managing Director, Peter Bembridge: “This is a very exciting time for the Green Flag Award scheme which celebrates 10 years of success next year. Caroline has the vision to build on this success and continue to raise awareness of the huge benefits a quality green space brings to its community. Caroline joins the Civic Trust from the North West Regional Development Agency.
