• Confidence in the Civic Trust flies high

The Civic Trust is thrilled to announce its continuing management of the Green Flag Award scheme, the national standard for parks and green spaces - and is inviting applications for the 2006/7 round.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) - who directly funds and manages the scheme alongside the new Green Flag Advisory Board - has awarded a new three-year contract to the Civic Trust, which will run from October 2005 to September 2008. The Green Flag Award scheme is at the heart of the Government’s public commitment to create cleaner, safer greener communities for all.

This year 322 winners received a Green Flag Award. Winners vary from Victorian parks and town centre gardens to nature reserves, country parks and cemeteries. Sites must be judged to be welcoming, safe and well maintained with the strong involvement of the local community.

The Civic Trust Managing Director, Peter Bembridge said: “We are delighted with this news and look forward to another three productive years of delivering the Green Flag Award scheme. I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication during the last three years – especially our fantastic team based in Liverpool and the Green Flag Award judges.

“The application round for 2006 Awards opens on the 3rd October 2005 and I again look forward to seeing a record breaking number of winners announced in July 2006.”

Since 1999 the scheme has been successfully delivered by The Civic Trust, the UK’s largest urban regeneration charity, and in recent years strategically directed by CABE Space on behalf of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), the main funding body.
