The Civic TrustAs Easter fast approaches and Spring is in the air, there has never been a better time to enjoy some of the country's best green spaces and parks, and from Thursday (April 8th) this will be made easier by the launch of a new website dedicated to award winning parks and spaces.
For the first time ever, the public will be able to access information and contact details for 182 quality parks and green spaces across England and Wales. These award winning parks and green spaces provide free public access and offer a wealth of healthy activities for everyone, from green gyms to belly dancing!
There will be a number of Easter events taking place throughout our parks and green spaces, so contact the park of your choice to find out what’s going on. There is no easier way to find your nearest Green Flag Award winner if you are going out and about for Easter.
In the North West, you may want to visit Trafford Ecology Park, a haven for wildlife at the heart of one of Europe’s largest industrial estates - or heading south, visit Bulwell Bogs in Nottingham, which was regenerated from dereliction to beauty spot in just six months. Happy Valley Park is the ‘jewel in Croydon’s crown’ richly endowed with flora and fauna and Bournemouth’s Seafield Gardens, a stone’s throw from the cliff top and beaches, attracts visitors of all age groups.
http://www.greenflagaward.org.uk is being launched by the Green Flag Award scheme, the national standard for parks and green spaces, managed by The Civic Trust, with CABE Space as the main funding partner, recognising the value of green spaces to communities, particularly in urban areas, and rewarding excellent standards of green space management.
Karen Lewis, Green Flag Award Manager, commented:
“A total of 182 parks across England and Wales fly Green Flags - they are quality parks, many with events for Easter, all with something to offer. This is an ideal time to get out and use them, and the website is an excellent resource for you to find them!”
