The Civic TrustAs the summer holidays fast approach, there has never been a better time to enjoy some of the country’s best green spaces and parks and you can now find up-to-the-minute information about events being organised at these Green Flag Award-winning sites.
Within a week, more than 500 events have already been posted on the scheme’s on-line events calendar and these are growing steadily by the day.
Visit http://www.greenflagaward.org.uk for a what’s-on guide to events and activities at some of the 253 Green Flag Award parks and green spaces across England and Wales. These quality sites, all freely accessible to the public, offer a wealth of healthy activities and entertainment for everyone, from green gyms to belly dancing to open air Shakespeare.
Get close to a range of exotic animals at Mesnes Park in Merseyside on June 5, be wowed at the spectacular cliffs and caves of the Great and Little Orme and the thriving seabird colonies that these spectacular limestone headlands support by taking a boat trip from Llandudno’s North Shore on June 30. Or enjoy a taste of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in the great outdoors when you visit York’s first Green Flag Award winning park between July 13 and 24. These are just a few examples of the exciting events taking place over the next month.
The Green Flag Award scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces, managed by The Civic Trust and recognising the value of green spaces to communities, particularly in urban areas, and rewarding excellent standards of green space management.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Applications Manager, commented:
“A total of 253 parks across England and Wales fly Green Flags – they are quality parks, all with something to offer. Summer is an ideal time to get out and use them, and the website is an excellent resource for you to find them.
“This new events calendar means people can find up-to-the-minute information about a huge variety of events at these top quality green spaces which are freely accessible to all. There is something for everyone, so visit http://www.greenflagaward.org.uk and see for yourself.”
