The Civic TrustOn Sunday May 11, the White Cliffs Countryside Project Volunteers carried out a beach clean at Dead Man’s Pool - filling 25 bin liners! They were greatly helped by a group of 16 Japanese students and several tutors from Chaucer college in Canterbury.
Paul Holt from the White Cliffs Countryside Project said ‘We walked along the beach from Samphire Hoe but we concentrated on removing rubbish from the base of the cliffs on an area known as dead-mans pool. The rubbish really seems to accumulate at this point, brought in by the tides. We removed about 25 bags which made some impact but there is still more to collect.”
Julie Maver Volunteer Coordinator for Chaucer College Canterbury said ‘The weather was glorious and students really enjoyed the experience’
Samphire Hoe is owned by Eurotunnel and managed in partnership with the White Cliffs Countryside Project. The Hoe is open 365 days a year from 7.00am until dusk.
