The Civic TrustThis summer, the Civic Trust is encouraging Green Flag Award winners to support The Children’s Society’s Walk & Explore initiative to raise vital funds for children in need.
Currently offering a choice of walking trails from the 1.5-mile Young Detectives Trail, the 5-mile Discoverers’ Trail and the 10-mile London Adventurers’ Trail, the events will help to raise funds for the most disadvantaged children in the UK - from those living a dangerous life on the streets, to young carers losing their childhood as they adopt adult responsibilities.
Main events are taking place in the following cities: Durham 7 June; Canterbury 14 June; St Albans 5 July; Oxford 12 July; London 13 September; Bristol 20 September. However, the Children’s Society is also keen to encourage similar events in other areas such as parks and green spaces. There are already many Walk & Explore style events taking place at Green Flag Award-winning sites so perhaps those taking part could make a small donation during one such event this year.
Alternatively, register for a Walk & Explore event by visiting: http://www.walkandexplore.org.uk or call 0845 300 1128. You can also organise your own park heritage trail by registering for The Children’s Society’s Do-Your-Own Walk & Explore Guide. This step-by-step guide has everything you need to put together your own walking event and is also a great way to get involved in the Civic Trust’s Heritage Open Days.
