Click here for winner's locationHeaton Park in North Manchester is the City Council’s premier park and the award of Heaton’s fourth Green Flag, and Green Heritage Site Award confirms that the impetus generated by the major ongoing restoration project is being maintained. Over the last ten years the park’s historic features, its landscape and buildings, have been restored in a one of the biggest projects that the Heritage Lottery Fund has ever supported and the City Council are determined that the high quality park will continue to improve. These awards shows that this aim is being fulfilled. Eamonn O’Rourke, Head of Manchester Leisure Services Division says, “The ongoing drive to improve all of Manchester’s Green Spaces is greatly encouraged by this achievement. The work in Heaton Park will continue with the restoration of Heaton Hall in the third phase of the restoration of the park, and the high standard of service delivery and historic interpretation will be sustained into the future.” Heaton Park offers a great experience for all ages; the magnificent 18th century hall is open throughout the summer months, with a Park Life exhibition telling the story of the park; the Farm Centre houses a café and an animal centre, with farm animals, exotic birds and small pets, and at the Transport Museum Vintage Trams can be ridden.
