Click here for winner's locationGreen Flag Award – Publicity Alexandra Park, an area of 44 hectares is situated in the middle of Hastings, and follows a natural valley for up to 2.5 kilometres. The park is easily accessible to over 60% of the town’s 85,000 population and offers a diverse landscape, much of which benefits from its rich heritage. It benefited from a £3.5million Heritage Lottery-funded restoration, completed in 2004 and then following its opening by TV presenter Charlie Dimmock, has seen huge numbers of visitors since. The park originally landscaped in 1878-82 by eminent landscape gardener Robert Marnock offers a rich variety of features, including: Water bodies Ancient woodland Wooded gills Sports and games areas Playgrounds Events area Important tree collection Formal/informal beds Peace garden Café The quality of the landscape and its management has enabled the park to win the Green Flag Award for the fourth year and in the last two years the “Best Park in the South East” Award. An estimated 500,000 visitors last year were testimonial to that; it has been dubbed locally as the “jewel in our crown.”
