Information about this open space

Straddling east London and south-west Essex, Epping Forest is a unique remnant of a royal hunting forest that is visited by millions of people each year. Over 6,000 acres of Oak, Beech and Hornbeam woodland, grassy plains, lakes, ponds, heathlands and meadows provide a mosaic of habitats for both wildlife and people. Walking, cycling, horse-riding, orienteering, model aircraft flying, boating, golf, football and cricket are just some of the recreational activities to be enjoyed whilst our management of one of the largest Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Special Areas of Conservation in south east England allows wildlife to flourish.  A good starting point for a visit is the Epping Forest Visitor Centre at High Beach. The informative displays and our knowledgeable staff will assist you to obtain the best of your time during your visit to the Forest.
