Information about this open space

Old Bakehouse Millennium Green is a tranquil haven to relax in away from the bustle of the town. It is located in the centre of Morpeth off Newgate Street through the archway into Bakekhouse Yard. It is a beautiful wildlife garden open to the public from dawn to dusk every day of the year. There are a variety of habitats for wildlife, including a new wildflower garden. Visitors will find plenty of seating and good wheelchair access. The Green was created and developed from a piece of derelict land, using Millennium funding,by a group of local people who are members of the charitable trust responsible for its upkeep. The Green is managed in an environmentally friendly way with the aim of attracting a variety of wildlife. Since opening in 2000 the trustees have received a number of awards, including the Green Pennant award from 2003 - 2007. In 2007 it won a gold medal for Best Conservation Project in the Northumbria in Bloom competition.
