Bramcote's 13th C Tower and grounds have undergone major restoration. Over the past year the Friends of the Old Church Tower organised a successful summer programme of on-site events including a plant sale, Strawberry Fayre and craft demonstrations, which attracted more than four hundred visitors. In addition Heritage Open Days brought in over two hundred people. We are already planning a similar programme for 2017, which will be advertised in the local press and through posters and fliers. We hope they will be just as successful and popular as last year.
The restored stone work of the Tower, refurbished door and spectacular stained glass windows in the east and west walls, continue to receive high praise from visitors who equally enjoy the carved stone seats and find the grounds a tranquil haven for contemplation and rest which they can visit at any time. We have been successful in gaining funding from the Heritage Lottery for Development Stage 1 to restore internal elements of the Tower, and to provide improved disabled access to the site and also the suitable siting and building of a storage facility, disabled toilet and kitchenette. All these elements are to be in keeping with the character and nature of the site by use of materials which will suitably integrate with those existing.
