Leavesden Country Park is located in the heart of Leavesden, within the district of Three Rivers.
The park has something for everyone. There is a spectacular children’s play area, a unique sensory garden, a heritage and wildlife centre (Leavesden HIVE), the Woodlands Café and Leavesden Cycle Hub.
To celebrate and recognise the local history of the Leavesden Hospitals, Leavesden Aerodrome and Film studios, there is a Heritage Trail showcasing nine iconic sculptures nestled in the park reflecting the themes of ‘Minds, Machines and Movies’ each with its own interpretation board weaving in the history of the area.
The Leavesden HIVE is home to the Park Ranger who works with the Friends of Leavesden Country Park and also leads a year-round education programme from this base. There is a varied calendar of events including nature activities, volunteer meetings and educational workshops. Leavesden Hospitals History Association is also based at the HIVE offering heritage walks and fascinating talks on the local history of the site.
Within the recent National Lottery Heritage Funded project, the Remembrance Garden, hospital railings, Edwardian steps and font have been beautifully restored and a new orchard has been planted. The East Lane Cemetery provides a place of quiet and tranquillity for those who have connections to the hospital or an interest in the small scale archaeology work currently taking place.
The park is a brilliant use of green space offering an environment in which to explore, discover and learn. Come as a visitor and leave as a friend.
