Tilgate Park

Tilgate Park extends over 162 hectares to the south of Crawley and is the town's most popular green space. There is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the year with heritage parkland, a Nature Centre and Walled Garden. The parkland comprises lawns, lakes and important tree and shrub collections which are at their best in spring when the extensive Rhododendrons bloom. There are heather gardens and a Peace Garden which commemorates the end of World War Two. The Nature Centre is home to many exciting wildlife species including mongoose, meerkats reindeer, owls and otters, as well as more familiar favourites such as goats, pigs, guinea pigs and rabbits. The new Australasia zone is now open. Opportunities to get up close and personal with some of the animals are available, including the chance to meet the meerkats and feed them some tasty mealworms! The Discovery Room gives visitors the chance to learn some amazing animal facts and regular public talks give an insight into the animals’ everyday lives in the care of the friendly zookeepers. The Walled Garden Community Café, run by the Charity Groundwork South, is a popular resting point here. A large children's play area, overlooks Tilgate Lake and is situated near to a Smith and Western restaurant. Go Ape Treetop Adventures and Dynamic Adventures lake activities were both successfully introduced in 2013. Visiting Tilgate Park off-peak is advised as it becomes very busy at weekends and during holidays. The Nature Centre opens every day (except Christmas Day) 10.00-16.00 GMT (winter) and 10.00-18.00 (Summer). For latest updates like us on Facebook (Tilgate Park).
