Information about this open space

The development of King George Recreation Ground, which was formerly countryside, has taken place in two phases - in 1911 and 1926.  Much of the natural history has been retained with field boundaries, ridge and furrow, ancient hedgerows and wildflower meadows.  The addition of a cafe, play area, tennis courts and a paddling pool, have increased the attractions in the recreation ground.  Proof of King George Recreation Ground’s success is to see it busy at all times of the day - dog walkers strolling through in the early morning, children paddling in the pool, families enjoying the fantastic food in La Dolce Vita CafĂ©, bowlers playing at the Bowls Club and teenagers playing football in the multi sports area.  Continuing improvements to the park whilst provide opportunities for everyone to benefit from this valuable community resource in the heart of Bushey.  A tree seat designed and forged by a local master blacksmith was installed in 2007, this project was funded by the Friends of King George Recreation Ground in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council.  During 2007 a range of events were held in the park, including an Easter egg hunt, a dog show, a quarter marathon, a teddy bears picnic, sponsored walks and health walks, a funfair, sports coaching, a Halloween event and Christmas carols.
