0161 4744427The park was opened in 1902 and retains much of its original character with its traditional gates, formal layout and traditional displays of bedding plants. There are good public transport links to the park with a both a train station and bus stop just outside of one entrance. There is car parking available, of which a number are dedicated for use by the less able. Access to all parts of the Park is excellent with paths suitable for those who are less able. To further ensure that the park is accessible a Disability Discrimination Audit was undertaken in 2005 and areas of uneven path corrected as a result. The Park is considered to be a valuable asset to the local community. It is well used by many local people and schools for recreation and learning. Facilities within the park include crown green bowling, tennis, basketball, five-a-side football, children’s play area, a shelter and quieter areas with well maintained horticultural features. During the term time it is not uncommon to see local school children engaged in activities in the park. The Park has both men and women’s bowls teams, members of whom are also actively involved in many of the Park’s activities. There is a dedicated Community Parks Officer, who is assisted by an apprentice gardener, and interpretative information on site to help you to enjoy your visit. The Park has held the prestigious Green Flag Award for many years through a process of continual improvement.
