0161 881 5639Chorlton Water Park Local Nature Reserve lies on a belt of countryside running along the river Mersey in south Manchester. This picturesque area of parkland is an easy to access place to relax. Whether you want to take the dog for a walk, go for a jog or a cycle or to simply sit with a picnic and watch the wildlife. There are plenty of well-surfaced paths around the lake, many of which are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, as well as cyclists and horse riders. The Park Warden team have a regular presence around the park patrolling and carrying out practical tasks, and are happy to offer advice or assistance. An Information Point is also staffed on weekend mornings situated at the entrance to the park in the car park. A variety of leaflets and event programmes can be obtained within. The park also has a playground, plenty of picnic tables and benches and a small bird feeding station. The lake is nationally important for wintering water birds and the park is recognised as a Local Nature Reserve as well as a Site of Biological Importance. The lake is well stocked with coarse fish and there are a number of well spaced fishing pegs, with provision for the disabled. The fishing season runs from May to December and permits are obtained on site from the Wardens. The Warden service can also range free educational environmental activities for local school groups.
