0161 477 9265Brinnington Park is located on the north-eastern side of Stockport town in the centre of Brinnington’s housing area, which is approximately two square miles and consists of some 3000 homes. The park covers 5.5 hectares of public open space and provides a gateway to the edge of Reddish Vale Country Park, which spans the entire Tame Valley, and forms an important link into the wider countryside. The park was built during the 1950’s to cater for the recreational needs of the residents of the newly developed ‘out of town’ housing estate. Due to a lack of investment on a national level, increasing levels of vandalism and issues of public safety resulted in the under use and decline of the park. 1999 saw a mammoth turn around in the park’s prospects with the establishment of an SRB project for the Brinnington area whose primary aim was to regenerate the area both socially and economically. The Brinnington Park project was established to respond to the needs of the community and to reduce the fear of crime. Today the park forms one of the major areas of public open space for residents of Brinnington and facilities, include two playground areas, a multi-use games area, bowling green, skateboard park, football facilities and other open green space. Brinnington Park has therefore been transformed from an area of neglect to a shining example of a local community park, with excellent facilities for all, which is used extensively by the local community. .
