Information about this open space

Lister Park, “Bradford’s premier park” first opened to the public in 1870 following its purchase from Sir Samuel Cunliffe Lister, a local mill owner for £40,000.00. The park underwent a £4.5 million restoration scheme thanks to a £3.2 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and now receives over 1 Million visits a year. Many of which are people attending the regular programme of band concerts, guided walks and a varied range of sporting, community and charity events held within the park throughout the year.  The park boasts a wealth of historical and contemporary features, a variety of landscapes and an abundance of flora and fauna within its 22.5 hectare site. It also houses seven Grade II Listed buildings; including Cartwright Hall, Bradford’s civic art gallery. The gallery offers an exciting programme of contemporary exhibitions and four permanent galleries displaying works from Bradford’s art collections.  The parks many facilities include the lovingly maintained botanical garden with geological trail and fossil tree, a boating lake with rowing boats and pedalos, the boating lake café, a bandstand that hosts a series of concerts throughout the year, and a mughal water garden with 9 fountains. There is also an excitingly equipped children’s play area along with 4 ball courts, 2 tennis courts, 3 bowling greens and a formal flower garden.  Information about the park, its facilities and events can be found on our web site www.bradforddistrictparks.com or from the Friends of Lister Park (FLiP) web site www.f-l-I-p.org
