0191 273 2983Benwell Nature Park and Local Nature Reserve provides the West End of Newcastle with an informal and natural green space enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, as well as being an important wildlife resource for the city. The park rangers encourage local people, schools and community groups to help with the practical work in the park and to use it for community festivals, education, events and peaceful recreation. The Nature Park is in the heart of the West End of Newcastle which has seen a vast amount of change over the past fifty years. The West End is the most diverse part of Newcatle made up of many cultures. The park shows what can be achieved when the dreams of local people are taken seriously and encouraged. Before its creation the area was a wasteland left after houses were demolished in the 1970’s.
