Information about this open space

Created in the 1930’s Gosforth Central Park still conforms closely to its original design. It provides the local community and business workers with the opportunity for peaceful relaxation. It has a good range of activities from its well maintained facilities that include; bowling greens, tennis, basketball courts, large open lawns, and children’s playground.  Located at the heart of a small business community and thriving residential area off the main High Street, it is a welcome oasis of peace in a busy world. The park covers an area of three hectares, and is well situated within the local transport network. Its avenues of mature trees large lawns and ornamental flower beds make it a very aesthetic location to just sit and unwind.  The successful involvement of the local community in all aspects of the park’s management and events program has raised its profile over recent years. A now annual youth music festival has become the main event of the summer activities. This and, a range of small scale events such as the Summer Sunday’s entertainment has brought the park to a wider local audience.  In terms of resources for the local community the park is one of the last islands of good quality protected open space that can be utilised as a community asset. This is achieved through close cooperation with all local agencies such as the Play Youth service and the police and neighbourhood response who, along with the Park Keeper help deal with the any anti-social issues and minor vandalism.
