01422 249136Ogden Water provides an essential pair of lungs to the people of Halifax and Bradford, attracting in access of 250,000 visitors per year. The management of the estate was taken over by Calderdale Council in 1987, before which access to the estate was prohibited. Under Council management many improvements have been made to fulfil the visitors experience. As Ogden is on the urban fringe, many difficult issues have been addressed, and original solutions sought. Through the support of the local community, the hard work of our many volunteers and the establishment of strong partnerships with many organisations, Ogden Water has broken the shackles of limited resources and become a vital recreational and educational facility in the area. Ogden Water is a unique place, one that is welcoming and accessible. It is extensively used by visitors, coming from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, as well as by people with many different levels of ability. The estate also acts as a popular gateway into neighbouring open access land and the wider countryside of the South Pennines Special Protection Area beyond. The Green Flag Award not only gives recognition of the good practice at Ogden Water, but is also a symbol of the local feeling towards the estate. It is not only deserved by those people whom have worked so hard to get Ogden Water the way it is today, but also by the many visitors who return again and again to enjoy the area.
