01227 862187Reculver Country Park is a unique place, designated internationally important as a Special Protection Area, and nationally important as a Special Site of Scientific Interest by Natural England, combining undeveloped coast, historic buildings and wildlife interest. The Reculver Towers are a landmark and Scheduled Ancient Monument that can be seen across the coastline from Herne Bay to Birchington in Kent. From the Towers 180° views are afforded from Herne Bay to Margate. The eroding cliffs provide an important habitat for a range of insects and birds. The clifftop grassland provides a pleasant walk for visitors between the Reculver and Bishopstone/Herne Bay. A formal cycle route is being developed in this area in 2008. The path from Reculver to Birchington provides sea views for walkers and cyclists. The King Ethelbert pub and and other seasonal neighbouring businesses are situated near to the Towers. It is estimated that over 100,000 people visit the park every year. Kent Wildlife Trust run organised school trips for up to 3,500 students each year. The park is managed through a dynamic partnership between the City Council, English Heritage, Kent Wildlife Trust and Serco. English Heritage own the Towers and Fort. Kent Wildlife Trust are contracted to manage the Visitor Centre and Park. Serco are contracted by the Council to maintain the grounds. The Council is proud to have gained a Green Flag Award since 2002. This award recognises high standards in public open spaces. Reculver is signed from the Thanet Way (A299)
