0161 770 4642Alexandra park, is located off Kings Road Oldham, in the Alexandra ward. A 25 Hectare park designed by Woodhouse & Potts in 1863, comprising of fully stocked and publicly accessible heated conservatory, boating lake, with angling available through Medlock Angling Club and boathouse with cafe, free tennis courts, three crown green bowling greens, childrens play area and the Boroughs remaining paddling pool, toilets and extensive ornamental gardens, herbaceous borders and shrub beds. Alexandra park is also the home of the ‘Lions Den’ a public shelter which has been recreated from an original design, and now forms the focal point along the promenade. The park is manned by a full time gardening team of eight to offer reassurance, advice and ownership during daylight hours. A partnership arrangement with ‘Park pride’ ensures that the park remains free from vandalism and attractive to visitors during the evening and weekends and gives people the point of contact at times of need. The park has recently undergone a complete overhaul thanks to funding secured through the Heritage Lottery Fund and Oldham Council. This park is well worth a visit as I am sure you will be amazed at the transformation into one of the country’s leading urban parks.
