01744 456122Bankes Park located to the north of St. Helens is a small urban park of 1.2 Hectares in size and serves the local community of Billinge. The park allows for easy access for its users with a car park located within the park, upgraded access for visitors with disabilities, tennis courts, childrens play area, formal planted areas and developing wildflower area. Increased herbaceous perennial plantings have improved the floral colour in the park throughout the year and information on selected plants used have been displayed within the information point to help visitors recognise the flowering plants and hopefully visit a local garden centre to purchase the same for their gardens. Additional seating has been provided by the Rangers from timber recycled from a local woodland as part of the Rangers woodland management operations and an events area provides for Ranger events, childrens play days and brass band concerts. Local school children have assisted the Rangers with the planting of daffodil bulbs, wetland plants, plants to attract insects and butterflies, native hedgerow all to further enhance the diversity of the park. Bankes Park has grown in popularity since recent development and improvement works have been undertaken and remains busy serving the local community and visitors from further a field all year round. The park remains in a good, clean and safe condition and through local ownership and skilled Gardeners and Rangers the quality of the park provision remains high at all times
