Information about this open space

Nunsmoor Park created around 1889 retains many of its original features in particular an avenue of ornate lighting known as Birdcage Walk which was reinstated during the parks recent refurbishment. The Park has committed user groups that were instrumental in the refurbishment of the Park that took place in 2004. Nunsmoor Park is at the heart of the local community and offers a number of well used facilities including a croquet lawn, tennis courts, a five a side pitch and a play area. Organised activities such as tree planting, guided walks and family events are an important part of life in Nunsmoor Park. All of these activities help bring people together and play an important role in helping people cope with the stresses of everyday life in a busy city such as Newcastle. The park has a dedicated park keeper to help maintain the park to a high standard and is a daily contact for visitors. When not chatting to visitors he is busy keeping the place looking good, working on the croquet lawn in the summer or keeping paths clear of leaves in the autumn. Nunsmoor Park is a developing park and many of its initiatives are still in its infancy. A new sensory garden developed around the depot is an example of how the park is evolving and continues play a role as a community facility and is a recent legacy that will be enjoyed by parks users for many years to come.
