Information about this open space

Formerly a farm with a small duck pond, Paddy Freeman’s park is a compact park located in the heart of a densely populated residential area of Newcastle. It is situated on Freeman Road very close to the Freeman hospital.  The park offers many attractions including the lake with its resident ducks, a playground, tennis courts, a bowling green, a cafĂ©, toilets, a model boating club, a large field for active sports and informal recreation, car parking and plenty of seating to enjoy being out of doors.  The park also has a good path network, which is linked to the very popular Jesmond Dene making it extremely popular with joggers and dog walkers alike.  The park provides a home venue for a local football club and a local school also uses the park for outdoor PE lessons and cross country running.  A resident Park Keeper provides a friendly site presence and he liaises with park users on a day to day basis. He also works closely with other local partners such as the police and other council workers to ensure the park is kept safe, clean and maintained to a high standard.  There is an active Friends group who advise the Council on all matters relating to the park as well as helping to fundraise, improve the park and organise events such as the increasingly popular annual dog show, Paws in the Park. Indeed the varied and extensive events programme ensures there is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the year.
