Information about this open space

Located within the Lee Valley Regional Park, to the north of Greater London, Gunpowder Park is the newest and largest outdoor space in the UK dedicated to arts and the environment. Formerly a Royal Ordnance site, the land has been regenerated and transformed over 100 years after it closed.  The dynamic landscape evokes the site’s historic explosive past and provides distinctive and accessible spaces for recreation, arts, entertainment and outdoor pursuits.  The Park offers the relatively new local communities, which have developed in the past few years, a space to relax and enjoy a large area of open space in what is an essentially urban environment.  The site is host to a unique and innovative programme of arts based events and research. Site specific installations and activities exploring the arts and the environment occur throughout the year and Gunpowder Park is becoming an important destination for everyone interested in open space and art. Local and regional schools and artists of national significance are now using the site for various projects.
