020 8894 2677Cranford Countryside Park is an attractive 53 hectare former country estate, 10 miles from the centre of London. It retains much of its original charm and tranquility even though in recent times the area has witnessed many changes. Visitors are surprised to discover parkland reminiscent of an aristocratic country estate. There is a soft mosaic of mown grass and meadow fringed and blended with woodland, river and scrub. The landscape is enriched by the centrally located stables and ancient church, as well as other historical features such as the driveway bridge, walled garden and ha-ha. The park is an excellent place to enjoy wildlife. The woodlands, wildflower meadows and wetlands support a wide range of plants and animals. Much work has been carried out to enhance the park’s biodiversity, including pond creation, coppicing, pollarding, wildflower seeding and the removal of non-native flora. The park is especially important for wildlife that is associated with mature woodland such as bats, birds, fungi and invertebrates. A range of nature and other guided walks and activities are offered to visitors throughout the year. Several larger events take place annually in the park, including a summer fair, model aircraft and Halloween events. The park’s Information Centre features wildlife and historical displays, a wildlife garden and an educational classroom. These facilities have been designed to accommodate disabled visitors. Other features include an orienteering course, nature and historical trails, children’s playground, community orchard, bridlepaths and a grass maze.
