Information about this open space

The Peace Gardens were designed to bring high quality horticulture, architecture and craftsmanship to a city centre setting, thereby being accessible to people who work, live, take leisure in or visit Sheffield city centre.  The high quality stonework and water features compliment the architecture of the adjacent Grade 1 listed Town Hall.  As a result of rigorous public consultation the gardens, opened in December 1998, are now one of the most impressive city centre gardens in the country.  The 0.67ha gardens are managed to extremely high standards to give a space that is welcoming, clean, secure, sustainable and is a pleasure to the citizens of Sheffield or to the visitor alike.  Opened as a key element of the ‘Heart of the City’ re-generation project, the area has become a primary catalyst for inward investment and wider re-generation and is an inspiration for further public realm design and management.
