Information about this open space

Northcroft and Goldwell Parks in central Newbury offer 14 hectares of public open space for a range of recreational pursuits. The parks can be found by following signs to Northcroft Leisure Centre which stands within the parks. Many people use the parks informally for getting some fresh air, fishing or taking the dog for a walk. The parks also play host to a range of more formal activities and events such as football games and cricket matches, biathlon, triathlon, the annual hockey festival and the annual Michaelmas Fair. Children are catered for by a play area and a BMX track. People enjoy the wildlife to be found in the parks including at least 44 species of birds and bats which are being encouraged with the conversion of the Second World War pill box to allow bat hibernation. A Friends Group, consisting of interested local residents, is involved with how the parks are managed and engages with West Berkshire Council which owns the sites.  The Monkey Bridge across the Kennet and Avon Canal is currently being replaced to improve access into the parks for the South.
