01670 500 771Carlisle Park in Morpeth, Northumberland, is a park you can enjoy every day. Watch the seasons unfold as you enjoy a stroll along the River Wansbeck or a walk in the woodlands. Get active at the skatepark or the paddling pool, or simply relax with a picnic and take in a game of bowls. Discover 1000 years of heritage with Morpeth Castle and Ha’ Hill Motte and Bailey within the park. Slip back in time in the William Turner Garden as you encounter an era when plants were much more than just decorative. This charming garden commemorates the life of The Father of English Botany, William Turner, who was born in Morpeth in 1508. Vibrant flower beds set against a backdrop of herbaceous borders greet you in the Formal Gardens, first laid out in 1929. Carlisle Park is also a haven for wildlife; home to red squirrels in the woodlands, white-clawed crayfish in the River Wansbeck and a multitude of birds and other creatures. Annually, over 400,000 visitors can get close to nature in the heart of this bustling market town. The community presence is strong, with groups including the Friends of Carlisle Park and Morpeth Bowling Club strongly involved with the continued improvement of the park. On site staff, gardeners and a weekend Ranger, and wide range of events throughout the year make Carlisle Park a great day out for the entire family. Carlisle Park is managed by Castle Morpeth Borough Council.
