Information about this open space

Located in the heart of the medieval Rockingham Forest near the village of Brigstock, Fermyn Woods Country Park is a mixture of scrubland, grass meadows and ponds. The park is now managed in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council and the Forestry Commission and includes the large woodlands attached to the park.  With its progression of landscape from open grassland to ancient woodland, the park is a varied and interesting site, rich in wildlife, including some nationally rare species such as badgers, fallow deer, red kites, hawfinches, black hairstreak and purple emperor butterflies.  As well as being a sanctuary for wildlife, the park provides a welcome respite from day to day life for its human visitors, who can stretch their legs on a long walk throguh the forest; enjoy a picnic on the meadows or relax with a cup of tea and a slice of home made cake in the Skylark cafe whilst fantastic play area provides excitement for children.  The staff and volunteers have worked hard to create a site wonderful for people and wildlife alike, by improving wildlife habitats, developing facilities and maintaining high standards at all times.  All this work is under-pinned by the staffs belief in best practice, attention to detail and environmental sustainability which make it a wonderful country park.
