Wardown Park

Wardown Park

Information about this open space

Wardown Park came into Council ownership in 1904 and the whole park was opened to the public in stages with the final inauguration occurring on 7th May 1906.  In 2006 the completion of a restoration programme funded by Heritage Lottery has restored the Park to a standard befitting its importance and popularity.  The parks historic significance is acknowledged by inclusion as Grade II on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, particularly due to the rare combination of Victorian and Edwardian purpose-built design features including a boating lake and decorative drinking fountain.  The Park is one of the most visited parks in Luton. It provides an oasis of calm within walking distance of the town centre and offers a wide range of facilities including formal and informal recreation and a high value play experience providing enjoyment for all ages and abilities.
