01892 526121Dunorlan Park is a special place with a varied Victorian garden, meadows and wildlife, alongside the modern park amenities. In 2003/4 Dunorlan underwent a major restoration costing £2.8m, following a £2.1m Heritage Lottery Fund award. This Grade II listed historic park was once the private grounds of a grand mansion built by Yorkshire-born millionaire, Henry Reed. The garden was laid out in the 1850s and 1860s by renowned Victorian landscape gardener, Robert Marnock and is one of the best-preserved examples of his work. There are sweeping views across the large lake to farmland beyond and a wide variety of features made of ‘Pulhamite’, an early form of artificial stone, constructed by the firm of James Pulham and Son of Broxbourne. Pulhamite could be used to join natural rocks together or crafted to simulate natural stone features. There’s a splendid Pulhamite and terracotta fountain, a Grecian temple and cascade. As well as enjoying the park’s historic features, visitors can hire boats from the new and innovatively designed boathouse, relax in the cafe or walk in the extensive meadowland. Just on the outside edge of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Dunorlan has a welcoming and tranquil atmosphere and is appreciated as a safe and secure venue for all ages. The park hosts a number of events, including walks and talks arranged by the enthusiastic Friends of Dunorlan Park
