Information about this open space

helloThrybergh Country Park is based around a former water supply reservoir built in the late 19th century to provide drinking water to Doncaster. Opened in 1982 as a country park it provides safe and pleasant walks, an important refuge for over wintering wildfowl, a caravan site, fly fishery, café and visitor centre. There is an ever changing programme of events and activities to appeal to all ages. In the winter there is usually plenty of birds to see on the water and in summer months the 2 mile walk round the reservoir is very popular starting at the visitor centre and ending at the café with a drink or meal.  The country park is surrounded by arable land on all sides.  The site, therefore, provides a valuable ‘island’ of semi natural habitats as well as an area of high landscape importance, in an agricultural setting.  The park is used by schools from across Rotherham for the provision of environmental education which is lead by Rangers on site. The diverse biological interest at Thrybergh Country Park is a magnet for naturalists as well as those who just enjoy being in the natural environment.
