01234 567422Priory Country Park is a beautiful area of lakes, meadows and Great Ouse riverside that is always open and only 2 miles from Bedford town centre. It is an attractive and tranquil site that is home to a rich variety of wildlife throughout the year. In particular it is notable for diverse range of wildfowl and warbler species and the Parks’ two hides provide good viewing for these and other birds. It is a popular place for walking, kite flying and picnics and users also appreciate its excellent accessibility (it lies on route 51 of the Sustrans national network), a visitors’ centre, a visible ranger presence and a unique timber labyrinth that will be the subject of arts projects in the future. The Park hosts a sailing club and an artificial canoe slalom that is used by clubs from across the country. Other activities include fishing, school visits and guided walks - further details on all aspects of the Park are available from the Rangers’ office (01234 211182). Look out for further improvements in 2008 including changes to the visitors’ centre, extending the surfaced path network and the launch of a Friends group – the Rangers will always welcome people who want to contribute to the Park.
