Chelmer Park specialises in providing quality sports facilities, and won the coveted Essex Playing Field Association Award in 2007. Besides providing football pitches, netball and tennis courts it can boast to being home of National League Chelmsford Hockey Club and the Chelmsford Cricket Club. In addition to the traditional pitches Chelmer Park provides floodlit synthetic pitches for football and hockey, and a water based hockey pitch.  The park has a contributed to the development of top sportsmen and women of County and National acclaim, and hosts international hockey matches, making it an important sporting venue in Essex. In addition to the range of sporting opportunities available the park is well used by young people, cyclists and dog walkers enjoying the play areas, cycle route and extensive areas of open space.
