01325 383099South Park in Darlington is the oldest public park in the North East of England. It has a long and proud history and has provided the people of Darlington and visitors alike with a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the many facilities since 1853. Between 2003-2006 South Park underwent an extensive Heritage Lottery Funded restoration project that restored many of its great features and created extensive new facilities providing once again a top class venue. South Park boasts facilities that will delight all. Excellent play areas for children and teenagers including a new skate board park; the ‘Outside In’ which is our dedicated Wildlife and Conservation classroom for schools; fantastic bowls facilities; a wonderful bandstand; fountains; gardens; a rockery; award winning floral displays; an aviary; tree lined avenues; a picturesque lake and river as well as a large show field for sports and big events. There are also the wonderfully restored 100 year old cafĂ© and public conveniences. 2008 and 2009 will see further additions to the facilities at South Park including a new play area for younger children, a picnic area, a new changing pavilion for sports teams and a new day centre run in partnership with the park and Adult Services for use by adults with learning disabilities. South Park also boasts excellent signage, CCTV and a team of dedicated Park Staff. We look forward to welcoming you.
