01903737956Mewsbrook Park is just a minute’s walk from the beach in the seaside resort of Littlehampton in West Sussex. It covers approximately four hectares and boasts a number of attractions including a boating lake, a miniature railway, a cafĂ©, original art deco shelters and a children’s play area, not to mention the extensive planting within the park. The Park was first opened to the public in 1939 and today you can see many trees that date back to before this time. These together with large shrub borders, a long herbaceous border and seasonal formal bedding displays, provide colour and interest throughout the year. The boating lake is a haven for wildfowl, and a number have made the island in the lake their home. Every spring watching the ducklings becomes an enjoyable pastime for the young and old alike, and feeding the ducks remains popular with young visitors. Adjacent to the main park is Ruby Gardens Conservation Area, an informal woodland where activities such as hedge laying and coppicing have taken place in the past with the assistance of local volunteer groups. It is managed with the interests of conservation in mind, and 2007 saw the Gardens being surveyed by a professional Botanist who recorded an impressive 109 plant species in this area. There is an active Community group who assist us with the vision for the Park. They have also held several events over the past few years including bulb planting and litter picking.
