Rother Valley Country Park is the largest of the three Rotherham Country Park and is located in the south of the borough 2 miles from junction 31 of the M1. The Park is 300 ha in size and is of regional importance for wildlife, events and family days out. The lakes provide the regions best watersport facilities and the large networks of footpath provide guests the opportunity to enjoy the whole area. At the centre of the park the courtyard area provides guest with craft units, cafe and toilets. A small walk down to the watersports centre allows them to experience sailing, windsurfing, pedalo’s and rowing boats. A full ranger service will answer any question and provides a full range of environmental events for guest to enjoy from walking to pond dipping, most of these are free of charge. Other activities within the park include team building, golf, cable ski, Playgrounds and cycle hire. But most people just come down to enjoy this green oasis and barbecue, picnic and relax in the South Yorkshire sunshine. On the migration route, it has become an important area for wildlife with 204 species of bird recorded since 1996. The nature reserve is a haven for many different groups of wildlife and also provides an easily accessible area for school parties and bird groups to view nature. Events play a large role and the park is becoming well known in the area for holding large national and international events.
