01753 511060Extending to over 216 hectares, Black Park is the largest of Buckinghamshire’s country parks. Featuring attractive woodland, grassland and heathland, its centrepiece is the picturesque lake, which is ringed by mature Scots pine trees, and is home to many species of fish, plant and birdlife. An extensive network of hard surfaced tracks and paths has been created to allow easy access throughout the park the for all ages and abilities. The park caters for many outdoor activities including walking, cycling, horse riding, orienteering and an extensive children’s play area has recently been created. The park has been a country park since the 1950’s, prior to that it was part of the much larger Langley Park Estate, being mostly commercial forest with its own sawmill, originally powered by water from the lake. During the 2nd World War it served as an Army Base for the Polish Army. The name Black Park is believed to have come from the Black Pines which were grown as a forestry crop, there dense cover cutting out much of the daylight making the park ‘Black’. The park is open 365 days a year from 8.00am to dusk (please contact us for exact closing times) with the ranger team always on-site to ensure that you have an enjoyable and safe visit. For further information please contact the country parks team on 01753 51060 or the webs site at www.buckscc.gov.uk and follow the links to country parks.
