Valued by local users and visitors alike for its large open space and pastoral feel the large areas of parkland are used for picnics, informal walking and organised sport. There is also a popular year round cafĂ© and a popular model railway. Hove Park offers a wide range of sport and play facilities with particular emphasis on ‘Active Living’ for all age groups. This includes a climbing boulder, low impact tennis courts, led ‘Healthwalks’ and the provision of Cycling Proficiency Lessons within the park. The National Cycle Network Route N82 runs along the north east section of the park. There are a number of events in the park including a ‘Lions’ carnival and fun fair and numerous ‘Fun runs’ and sponsored walks. This year the park celebrated its Centenary. The park is clean and well maintained and the buildings and roadways are routinely inspected and accessible to all. There is a wild flower area and bird boxes in a wildlife corridor. The locally famous ‘Goldstone’ is protected and has an interpretation plaque explaining its history. The ‘Finger Maze’ is a commissioned piece of work by Chris Drury, an artist with an international reputation. A ‘Friends of Hove Park’group has been set up and the council also consults with all the sports clubs and organisations that regularly use the facilities.
