Information about this open space

Bow Creek Ecology Park is a fantastic new open space located in the south of the Lee Valley Regional Park in the London Borough of Newham. The Park was officially opened on June 21st 2006. Funding from London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, Access for Excellence, Lea Rivers Trust, and a dowry from London Docklands Development Corporation has enabled the LVRPA, to regenerate this important site, creating much needed access to urban space, for both the local community and region. Bow Creek provides a vital resource for the surrounding areas particularly in regard to education.  The design of the Park furniture such as the outdoor classroom, main gates and seating were chosen through consultation with local community groups and schools in partnership with Lea Rivers Trust. Lea Rivers Trust, the Lee Valley Park’s Youth and Schools department and Groundwork East London have run numerous school project weeks and a community day to raise awareness of the site. The LVRPA are producing a leaflet for the area and are looking to improve signage to the site.  A surfaced path winds around the site edging a set of interconnecting ponds and meadows, which contain nationally and locally rare species.  The site attracts numerous butterflies and dragonflies in the summer, when the meadows are in bloom. The surrounding river is also a haven for many birds such as Sand Martins. Redshank, and Kingfishers which are a Park Biodiversity Action Species.  Bow Creek Ecology Park really is an urban oasis.
